The Rotary Club of Hamilton was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Fortitude Valley. After an inaugural meeting held at "Coolden", New Farm, in July, 1956, the Club had its first official meeting at Royal Queensland Golf Club where it has continued to meet ever since.

The Charter from Rotary International was presented on 23 February, 1957, at a function held at Lennons Hotel, Brisbane.

Always considered to be among the "top" clubs of the District, The Rotary Club of Hamilton has been involved in numerous service projects within the community, nationally and internationally. The Club has provided three District Governors, Glen Kinross in 1973/74Alan Millard in 1983/84 and John Leddy 2015/16. Consistently, members of the Club have served on District Committees.

During the Rotary year, 1997/98, members of the Rotary Club of Hamilton were proud to have one of its long standing members, Glen Kinross, serve as President of Rotary International. He serves currently as one of the Trustees of the Rotary Foundation.

Significant projects undertaken by the Club include:

  • Construction of a swimming pool for Newstead Special School,
  • Establishment of Hamilton Senior Citizens,
  • Help Industries Project,
  • Gateway Bridge Opening Celebrations,
  • Migrant Sponsoring Program (providing accommodation, jobs, care),
  • Provision of a vehicle for a farm for orphan boys in Sri Lanka (Ceylon),
  • Provision of a number of vehicles for the Blue Nurses,
  • Provision of Awards - Ivan Home awards for TAFE, Citizenship Awards for District Schools, Pride of Workmanship Awards,
  • Heather Kinross Education Endowment Fund.
